Dan Santat: Hello, my name is Dan Santat. Santat is actually shortened for the original Thai name, Santatevongchai. When I went to go visit my uncle back in Thailand, he had this letter framed from the Thai government and when we asked him what it was all about he had told us that it was an official letter from the king of Thailand. Turns out that the last name Santatevongchai was granted to my great-grandfather from the king of Thailand and that's where I get my last name. It wasn't until my parents came to the United States and became American citizens where the U.S. government said, "Let's just lop off the other ninety letters and we'll just call you Adam and Nancy Santat." So that is the origin of my name -- Dan Santat. That's Santa with a T. Three hundred and sixty-four days a year I write books and one day a year I am Santa Claus.
