Nasuġraq Rainey Hopson: Hi. My name is Nasuġraq Rainey Hopson. The way that you say my name is in our language, we like to use the whole entire mouth and throat. So it's kind of in the back of your throat, the dotted G. So, it's Nasuġraq Rainey Hopson.

In our culture, our names are passed down. My name has been passed down probably for hundreds of years, generation after generation.

The closest word that we can find that matches my name means a trailbreaker. So, it's somebody who goes ahead and makes sure there's nothing blocking the path for the rest of the band of people. My name was passed down to my great-grandmother.

In our culture, we believe in a little bit of reincarnation through names. So, I was given her talents as a child when they gave me her name.

So she was a really good artist which kind of translated, and a good storyteller which also kind of translated, I like to think so. Well, my name means trailbreaker but it also is so old that the meaning is worn away on the name.
