Erika Lewis: Hi, my name is Erika Lewis. My name has changed so much over the course of my life. When I was born, it was Riki Freedman. Freedman was my father's last name. My parents were divorced. Riki was my nickname. And it was my nickname spelled R-I-K-I, because my mother named me after the mongoose in Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. I think she said she expected me to be a boy, and that was the name they had picked out, and so then somehow they came up with Erika. I think she wanted a very tall -- I don't know why, because she's five foot three -- daughter and I'm barely five feet tall, so sadly that didn't work out for her. So she picked Erika, that's like a Swedish bombshell name, which is really kind of funny.

And then when I got to college, I took my stepfather's last name, which was Grenadier, and so I was Riki Grenadier.
And then I graduated college, and after I graduated college, I went to work. And where I went to work, a very nice man, which okay, nowadays we would never probably do this, he said, "I don't think Riki's an appropriate name at work." So he told me I needed to go by Erika. So I started to go by Erika and I was like, okay, so now I'm Erika. And then I got married and I just... Lewis is my husband's name and I love it. It's also a lot shorter than Grenadier or Freedman for that matter. So I was like, let's do it. We're all one family. So I'm now Erika Ely Lewis. My middle name, E-L-Y, is from my mother's side. All of my first cousins and I have the exact same middle name because they didn't have any sons. So we carried that down through our generation.
