Teens - Winter

Discover ideas for including TeachingBooks resources in library programs for teens.

  • It’s book award season! Introduce your teen patrons to the many wonderful book awards as a way to identify new favorite titles. Structure a book club around a list like the YALSA Teens’ Top 10 or the CBC Young Adult Favorites Award. Ask them to create their own top picks of the year list or vote on the titles included on other award lists.

  • Share digital programming this winter, when patrons might need more activities to keep them busy at home. Explore our list of titles with Digital Escape Rooms. Use the grade level filters to identify the best escape rooms for a particular audience and easily share with families. Or use these Digital Escape Rooms as inspiration for in-person escape rooms!

  • Use the Literary Calendar as inspiration for your teen advisory board or teen volunteers to plan their own programs or help you brainstorm. What kind of program would they plan for World Read Aloud Day (February 7th)? What about National Weatherperson’s Day (February 5th) or Pencil Day (March 30th)? Encourage them to explore the calendar and find celebrations they would like to highlight.

  • Invite authors into your creative writing programs with video series’ full of concrete writing tips for teens. If you’re not a creative writer yourself, you can let an expert lead the program.
