Book Description
for Tenacious by Patty Cisneros Prevo and Dion MBD
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
Tenacity is a defining characteristic shared by the disabled athletes showcased in Wisconsin author Cisneros Prevo’s debut book. Each athlete’s profile includes a brief description of their sport, disability, and personal history, ending with the athlete sharing their daily joy and a daily challenge. The profiles underscore both their individuality and dimensions to their lives everyone—disabled or not—can relate to. For instance, Rico Roman became disabled while serving in the U.S. Army and later got involved in sled hockey. He notes that maintaining motivation to work out is his daily challenge, and his daily joy is his wiener dog, Peanut Butter. At the conclusion, the author shares her experience as a member of the community of disabled people and as a disabled athlete. A discussion of preferred language is also included at volume’s end. (Ages 7-10)
