Book Description
for Next Stop! by Sarah Ellis and Ruth Ohi
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
“On Saturday Claire rides the bus. She sits right at the front. She helps the driver. 'Next stop, Moss Road,’ says the driver. 'Museum,’ says Claire. 'Ding,’ says the bell.” At each stop the driver makes, Claire announces what can be found at that corner: a ball park, a shopping mall, a library, the hospital. Just as Claire does, young readers see new passengers as they enter the bus and watch as they leave it. Children can imagine some of what’s happening with each person or group outside of the bus, too. Ellis’s lively, patterned text is inhabited by Ohi’s extensive cast of characters. The book is a terrific opportunity for people watching, and it has a surprise ending. This is a cheerful, contemporary story to read, reread, and even act out. (Ages 2-6)
