Based upon actual union organizing in the 2000 Los Angeles janitors' strike, this picture book with text in Spanish and English features young Carlitos, a child who helps his mother become a leader in the strike. With support from his teacher, Carlitos and his school friends make protest signs, with Carlitos' sign saying "I love my mama. She is a janitor."
