Book Description
for Eidi by Bodil Bredsdorff
From The United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY)
Eidi has made enormous adjustments in her short life, but this latest seems impossible to accept. Her mother Foula has given birth to a baby boy. Not wanting to share her mother, Eidi departs, wearing her “better luck-next-time” (11) shawl, to help Rossan weave his sheep’s wool. Instead, Rossan takes her to market on the far side of the peninsula. Fate intervenes so that Eidi and Rossan must stay in Eastern Harbor longer than expected. Reluctantly, Eidi accepts the surprises she encounters and absconds with an abused orphan, eventually arriving home at Crow Cove. Bodil Bredsdorff has penned an engrossing companion to her 2005 Batchelder Honor Book, The Crow-Girl. 2010 USBBY Outstanding International Books List, 2010 Mildred L. Batchelder Honor Book. lmp
