Book Descriptions
for Owlets and Tarts by Cynthia Rylant and Janna Mattia
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
Three mice siblings run a bakery, The Mouse and Spoon, which is popular with birds. A very tired owl father walks in one day and orders three pillow tarts. The mice whip them up and deliver them—straight to the beds of the owlets, who lay their heavy heads on the fluffy, soft tarts and promptly fall asleep, much to the relief of the tired new parents. This cozy confection of an early reader will delight fans of sweet treats and anthropomorphic animal families.
